First visit to Andre’s Restaurant, Sparta, NJ

Having grown up in the Riverdale / Kinnelon area we never really ventured much outside of Morris County to dine until we moved to Sussex County and found that we needed to travel in order to find the elegant dining experiences we were looking forward to.  Having worked in the Morristown area for many years, we both have found ourselves over the last several years working and dining in the Sparta area much more frequently.  Our friend Chef Ken Salmon owned and ran Upstream Grille for 3.5 years in Lake Hopatcong and it was our place.  We got married there and we were very loyal to Ken.  He is an amazing…

    First Sunday Supper: Caffé NaVona

In the heart of Morris County New Jersey, on a busy section of Route 46 in Rockaway, you will find one of the best Classic Italian Restaurants called Caffé NaVona.  Caffé NaVona, is named after Piazza Navona in Rome Italy, as we recently learned from owner Marco DeFilippis.  Piazza Navona was built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian and now serves as a public gathering place.  The square is surrounded by restaurants and terraces giving Piazza Navona a lively and delightful atmosphere.  Once you have visited Caffé NaVona, you will understand why they chose the name. On February 3rd, 2018 we headed to Caffe NaVona for our 2nd…

    First Sunday Supper: Momento Restaurant

Slightly off the beaten path and hidden in the hills of West Milford New Jersey resides Momento Restaurant. Opened in 1996 by Alberto Dautaj and his family, Momento serves Classy Italian fare with a flair. You can read more about Momento on their website. Living not far outside the borders of West Milford, we were amazed to find out this gem of a restaurant had been around since 1996.  We had never heard of Momento nor the several other restaurants owned by the Dantaj family.  We were lucky enough to have attended a beautiful wedding of two friends at Momento where Dave served as the Officiant.  This was our first…

Our First Sunday Supper Tour 2018

Throughout 2017, we were lucky enough to have started a new First Sunday Supper tradition.  Our friend Chef Ken Salmon who owned Upstream Grille (now sadly closed) had an amazing pianist who would play the first Sunday of the month during dinner.  Henry Shapiro, 97 years young at the time, had played around the Lake Hopatcong, NJ area for a portion of his career that started when he was 13.  This became a tradition for us.  Cyn and I would dress up and head over to enjoy an amazing Sunday Supper while listening to Henry playing tunes from the Great American Songbook.  This was something we looked forward to every…
